mae's first fall

Time: 3:45am

Place: mom and dad's bed

Reason: early am feed (with intention of returning to crib post feed)

Error: tired mom thinks she can lay on her side (not dozing off) and let little miss mae snack

Reality: mom dozes off, baby falls asleep, baby proceeds to roll of the bed and make a giant thud, landing 4 feet down

Outcome: mae cries for a minute, then laughs and plays with parents for 30 minutes, waits patiently while mom calls best friend in boston for reality check, returns to bed, appears fine in the morning

Follow-up: even though the doctor assures mom all is fine, her guilt and hidden panic force her to drive the little one in for a check-up with the emergency pediatrician on call

Diagnosis: all is well, careful watch for 24hrs to make sure no post brain injury creeps up

Moral: don't trust tired moms in the middle of the night, nursing will now take place in a chair with a light on
